Planting

We can plant up your garden, based on a scheme or theme that we have produced or that you provide for us. As far as possible we work with local nurseries to provide high quality plants at keener prices than your local garden centre.

Container grown plants can be planted at any time provided the ground is not frozen or snow covered or too wet to work without damaging the soil structure (heavy clay soils suffer most) but the best times are during the warmer months when plants are in full growth as they establish better.

Bare root trees and hedging have to be planted while the plants are dormant – roughly from leaf fall in October / November to bud break in March. Autumn planting allows roots to establish while the soil is still relatively warm, so the trees can get away to a good start in the spring.

New plants usually require watering until they have established. The roots are still in the ball of earth that came out of the pot and this can dry out just as a pot will do.
